Peter Thomas has stepped down from his role as executive director of the Leasing Foundation.

Thomas, a Leasing Foundation co-founder, will be concentrating on developing a new global network looking at the future of finance, as chief executive officer and founding partner of THEORICA, formerly the Future Finance Network.

He will continue working with many former and current foundation colleagues on a range of issues beyond equipment and asset finance.

His move comes as a new board line-up is announced focused on technology leadership, young people and diversity and inclusion.

Confirmed Leasing Foundation board members include:

  • Andrew Denton (Alfa Financial Software, chairman)
  • Mike Randall (Simply, Technology)
  • Nathan Mollett (Metro Bank, Young People)
  • Graeme Chisholm (CBRC, Young People)
  • Carol Roberts (1pm, Diversity and Inclusion)
  • Jo Davis (Locke Lord, Diversity and Inclusion)
  • Ian Isaac (Lombard, non-executive)
  • Gavin Wraith-Carter (Hitachi Capital, non-executive)

A foundation statement said: “We would like to thank Peter for his contribution to the foundation as co-founder, COO and then executive director from its creation to this point.

“We will maintain points of connection on the professional development agenda, as well as on innovation and technology where the global focus of the new network on fintech, regulation and industry development complements the foundation’s existing initiatives.”

The two organisations will jointly work on developing the Business Finance Innovation MA at Falmouth University, where Thomas is visiting professor of financial innovation and advises on the evolution of the MA.

The MA is part of a suite of business degrees being developed with a focus on new technologies and new skills for the future of finance.

The Certified Business Finance Professional, established under the umbrella of the Leasing Foundation, is now an independent not-for-profit body.

The statement from the foundation added: “From its inception, the Leasing Foundation has sought to demonstrate that there are many ways to support the development of the industry with a focus on getting the job done rather than structures and titles.

“It has been a platform from which projects and initiatives are launched, and has partnered with the FLA and the AF-PA Trust amongst others to ensure that the industry has a flow of initiatives that promote innovation and research to drive its growth.”

This year’s International Asset Finance Network conference on June 13 is being held in association with the Leasing Foundation.

It includes the PowerUP London 2019 challenge in which innovators pitch to an audience of industry leaders from SME, auto, fleet and equipment finance, under the guidance of Thomas as chairman.
