Rental giant Sixt has launched a monthly car subscription service in its German home market.

The service, called Sixt+, starts at €349 per month and includes insurance cover, along with registration, maintenance and vehicle taxes.

It is currently available in 30 cities and contracts can be cancelled after the minimum sign-up period of 30 days, although customers have the option to keep contracts rolling on a permanent basis.

Sixt intends to offer the latest vehicle models, covering all categories from small cars to luxury saloons. Vehicles can be booked on the company’s website or via its app.

Konstantin Sixt (pictured), management board member responsible for sales, said: “Our new Sixt+ offer is the logical response to society’s changing mobility needs – far beyond the Coronavirus era. We are expanding our portfolio of flexible rental offers and the service via our app.”

Last year, Sixt launched a smartphone app offering vehicle rental, car sharing and taxi/transfer services on a single platform as part of its strategic expansion to become a global mobility services provider.

Sixt said the app, called One, is the first integrated mobility platform in the world and can be used to book its own services along with a range of affiliated partners, so customers have access to 240,000 vehicles, 1,500 mobility suppliers and more than one million drivers.

As part of its strategic shift, Sixt announced earlier this year that it intended to sell its shareholding in Sixt Leasing.
