Fleet Finance Sponsored by Auto Finance Fleet Finance News Fleets briefed on future transport at CLM electric vehicle experience day Published: 9th February 2018 Share Fleet solutions provider CLM has partnered with Renault and charging solutions provider Chargemaster to brief UK fleet operators on the future of electric vehicles. The day included advice on EV management, running costs and hands-on testing of a range of Renault zero-emission vehicles. Renault brought along a number of EVs for testing, including the ZOE, Twizy and Kangoo ZE van. Claire Atkinson, Renault national fleet EV manager, explained that an EV driver could save £1,794 in company car tax compared to a driver in an equivalent diesel. She added: “Ministers have been told that 60% of new cars must be electric by 2030 to meet emissions targets but general awareness is low, so EV education days with fleet managers are very valuable.” Chargemaster EV experience centre partnership manager Ben Grocott told fleets there are now 14,348 chargepoints in the UK, with the number increasing at the rate of 250 per month. Fleets were told that the registered keeper or lessee of an EV is eligible for a grant of up to £500 towards the cost of a charger and installation at their own home. In addition, a £300 grant per socket is available for chargepoints in the workplace, up to a maximum of 20 per employer across all sites. John Lawrence, CLM managing director, said: “Our research has shown that many drivers still require extensive education on the various electric and hybrid powered vehicles on the market before sales start to accelerate towards Government targets. “Increased education would undoubtedly help this process and this is where fleet management providers like ourselves have a clear role to play in providing our customers with detailed analysis of the options available.” CLM is part of the Maxxia Group of companies that includes Maxxia, Eurodrive Motor Finance, Anglo Scottish Asset Finance and Capex Asset Finance. CLM manages more than 15,000 vehicles on behalf of UK corporate clients.
