Volkswagen Financial Services to build 150 new charging points

Share

Volkswagen Financial Services are rapidly expanding their charging infrastructure at their Braunschweig campus. In the coming year, a further 150 charging points will be added to the existing 212 stations already in place. The special feature of these new points is that they will all draw their electricity 100 percent from renewable sources and thus contribute to the further sustainable electrification of the city of Braunschweig.

The charging points are predominantly designed with a 2×11 kW power output, while six points have 50/22 kW capacity and are therefore ideal for fast interim charging.

Frank Fiedler, Board Member for Risk, Tax and Legal Affairs at Volkswagen Financial Services AG and responsible for sustainability in the company, said: “More and more of our employees are driving electric – whether in their private or company cars. Workplace charging is one of the many keys to fostering widespread electromobility. As an automotive financial services provider and as an attractive employer, we bear a special responsibility to build up a sustainable charging infrastructure, especially here at our headquarters in Braunschweig.”

Kai-Uwe Rothe, Managing Director of BS Netz, stressed the importance of the cooperation: “For the energy transition to succeed, the transport sector, alongside the electricity and heating sectors, must also rely more heavily on renewable energy sources. As the distribution network operator for the city of Braunschweig, we therefore support the expansion of the e-charging infrastructure at the Braunschweig VW FS campus through both our expertise and our intellectual backing.”

In addition to the installation work, the services provided by BS Netz for the VW subsidiary also included the construction of two compact transformer stations (630 kVA each) and their connection to the medium-voltage area network of Volkswagen Financial Services. The planning for this was carried out by Volkswagen Immobilien, Volkswagen’s real estate company, while the charging points were erected and commissioned by Elli, Volkswagen’s energy and charging solutions provider.
