The Simply Cup is back for 2025

The Simply Cup is back and bigger than ever! On Thursday, January 9, 2025, the asset finance industry will once again unite for the third annual Simply Cup Charity 5-a-side Football Tournament, hosted at Powerleague Battersea.

Following the overwhelming success of previous tournaments, this year’s event promises to raise even more funds for the vital cause of Cancer Research UK (CRUK).

The Simply Cup has quickly become a marquee event in the industry, drawing participants from across the sector. Last year’s tournament, held in January 2024, was a massive success, with 26 industry teams competing. With over 200 participants, the event demonstrated the power of unity in support of a critical cause.

LGB Capital Markets claimed victory after a thrilling final match against Audeo Financial Services, the 2023 champions.

Reflecting on the success of the 2024 event, Mike Randall, CEO of Simply Finance, emphasized the spirit of collaboration that defines the Simply Cup. “It is absolutely incredible to see so many businesses come together for fun, competition, and, most importantly, to support Cancer Research UK. This cause is deeply important to the Simply family and so many others in our community,” he said. The event raised over £21,000 for CRUK and highlighted how the finance industry can rally around common causes.

In addition to its charitable contributions, the Simply Cup has been recognised for its commitment to inclusivity and diversity.

The participation of the Leasing Lionesses and other female players in the 2024 tournament marked a significant step toward gender equality in the industry.

Randall noted, “The Simply Cup was a trailblazer in inclusivity, breaking down barriers for diversity. The involvement of female players is a positive movement towards change and achieving gender equality in the sector.”

The industry has not only celebrated the charitable and sporting success of the Simply Cup but has also recognised its positive impact. The tournament was awarded the AFC Outstanding Achievement Award 2024 at the Asset Finance Connect Summer Awards in July, further solidifying its reputation as a landmark event in the asset finance calendar.

As the 2025 tournament approaches, organisers are calling for even greater participation, hoping to exceed last year’s achievements both on and off the pitch. The funds raised will directly support CRUK’s efforts to combat cancer, a cause that resonates deeply with many in the industry.
