A team from Hitachi Capital Business Finance are toasting victory in the third annual Leasing Industry Pub Quiz, where they finished first ahead of ten other teams drawn from around the industry in a hotly fought contest on 22 May.

The event, hosted by New Leaf Search (NLS), is designed to offer competitors the chance to match themselves against their industry peers while networking in a relaxed atmosphere. The venue for this year’s quiz was The Counting House, now a City of London pub but originally built in 1893 as Prescott’s Bank. Competitors enjoyed a traditional buffet and drink as well as food for thought.

Each member of the teams of six people, drawn from leasing and asset finance companies, was presented with a coloured sash bearing the company name, while team captains wore bowler hats. A professional quizmaster was in charge and there were a series of rounds including fastest on the buzzer, identifying sounds and pictures and specialist questions.

The winning team, which gave themselves the nickname “Hitachi Intellectual Capital”, received an engraved glass award when crowned as champions of the New Leaf Search – Leasing Industry Great British Pub Quiz 2014. Individual players also went home with a large bottle of Laurent Perrier champagne, an NLS Cross pen and a winners’ certificate.

As one team member put it: “A very big thank you to you all for hosting another very successful quiz evening. Obviously, we were extremely chuffed to come home with the trophy, but even without the win, the team would have still thoroughly enjoyed the event.”

Losing teams had to be content with an engraved wooden spoon trophy, a wooden spoon each and a pub quiz book to help with preparing for future challenges. They will be able to make good their defeat next year, when there will be a return match in May/June 2015 as the quiz is now a fixture in the annual leasing calendar.

Hitachi Capital Business Finance joins the roll-call of previous winners, starting with Bank of America Merrill Lynch (“Bank of America’s Got Talent”) who won the inaugural quiz in 2012, followed by 2013 winners Aldermore Asset Finance (“George and the Dragons”).
