Bibby Financial Services (BFS) has hired former Lloyds director Ian Lomas to head up its niche business funding division as part of its strategy to expand its offerings to small and medium sized businesses.

Lomas joins the business on 1 June as niche products director, reporting directly to UK chief executive, David Postings. He was previously Lloyds commercial finance client and collateral management director, having held a variety of senior leadership roles within the bank, including managing Lloyds HP and leasing business.

With 22 years’ experience in the invoice finance market, Lomas will be responsible for BFS’s lease finance, trade, international and construction products as it looks to further compete with the banks in lending to businesses.

BFS chief executive David Postings said: “This is a key appointment and having someone of Ian’s calibre will undoubtedly help us to take our business to the next level and further enhance the vital support we provide to businesses in the UK.”

Lomas said: “BFS is an extremely progressive organisation and it has been making a significant dent in the market share of banks over recent years. I’m delighted to be joining at a time when the business is growing.”

BFS has recently announced a number of other senior appointments, including Mark Lindsey as head of Bibby trade finance, Helen Wheeler as managing director of construction finance and Marie Harvey’s move to become managing director for export finance.
