CIT Group has announced that its specialist aircraft finance company, CIT Aerospace, signed a total of 39 agreements in the second quarter of 2016 for the current and future leases of commercial aircraft.

CIT Aerospace also delivered 26 aircraft, including new and used aircraft and lease extensions of existing fleet, to its airline customers around the world. This included the delivery of two Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Air Transat, a Canadian airline based in Montreal.

“The continued success of CIT Aerospace in 2016 is based on our industry expertise and our ability to maintain one of the youngest and most technologically advanced fleets in the industry,” said Tony Diaz, president of CIT Aerospace. “Our ability to provide customized financial solutions to our airline customers has allowed us to maintain our position as one of the largest lessors in the aerospace sector.”

CIT Aerospace owns, finances and manages a fleet of more than 350 commercial aircraft serving approximately 100 customers in 50 countries.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that CIT Group is in discussion with bidders seeking to buy the commercial lender’s aircraft-leasing business, claiming that first-round offers exceeded $4 billion. Second-round bids are due next month.
