Share

The AFPA Trust’s year of ‘BIG’ events saw another remarkable success with “The BIG Golf” Charity Day, held on July 25th at the prestigious Berkshire Golf Club. This inaugural event perfectly blended friendly competition with charitable giving, bringing together industry professionals for a day of golf, camaraderie, and philanthropy.

A day of competition and charity

The BIG Golf was more than just a tournament—it was a significant opportunity for participants to make a difference. Through this event, the AFPA Trust awarded a total of £3,240 in prize money, all directed towards the charities chosen by the event winners.

Robert Taylor, Chair of the AFPA Trust, expressed his satisfaction with the event: “AFPA Trust are delighted that everyone had a fabulous day at The Berkshire, one of the UK’s best courses.

“It was the perfect setting for our first BIG Golf event whereby the industry came together in friendly competition to win cash donations to charities of their choosing. Congratulations to Reward Finance Group, NETSOL, Novuna, and Star Asset Finance for winning and, more importantly, representing their charities – some of which received bonus donations due to our Charity Partner Scheme.”

Looking ahead, the AFPA Trust plans to announce the date for next year’s BIG Golf soon. Charity Partners will again receive priority booking and the chance to boost their winnings, ensuring that the spirit of giving continues to thrive.

Celebrating the winners

The day was filled with exciting competition, with several teams emerging victorious in various categories:

NETSOL Technologies: Yellow ball game winners and nearest the pin

NETSOL Technologies shone brightly at the event, taking home the prize for the ‘Yellow Ball’ game with 35 points and also winning the Nearest the Pin challenge. The team, comprising NETSOL’s Chris Tobey, Dan Sullivan from Lombard, Kevin Tonge from Metrobank Asset Finance, and Steve Green from Clear Business Finance, secured third place in the overall team competition, bringing their total charity donation to £1,620, thanks to an additional 20% from their Gold Charity Partner status.

The funds were donated to SPLIT (Supporting Paediatric Liver & Intestinal Transplants), a charity that provides critical support to children with liver diseases and those undergoing liver and intestinal transplants.

Chris Tobey from NETSOL expressed the team’s excitement: “NETSOL had a fantastic day at the event! Our team were thrilled to win the Yellow Ball competition and the nearest-the-pin prize, as well as coming third in the team event.

“The venue was excellent, and we’re delighted to have raised £1,620 for our chosen charity, SPLIT. Another well-organised AFPA event—we’re already looking forward to the next one!”

Reward Asset Finance: Team game winners

Reward Asset Finance claimed victory in the team game with an impressive 97 points, earning a £1,000 donation for the MCA Trust. This charity is dedicated to supporting children and teenagers in Essex as they navigate their cancer journeys, with the donation specifically earmarked to support the MCA Trust Pantomime.

Robert Still, Managing Director of Asset Finance at Reward Asset Finance, reflected on the event: “It was a privilege to attend the inaugural AFPA Trust Golf Day and, most importantly, raise lots of money for some fantastic charities.

“It is always the taking part that counts at these events, but we were happy to win and be able to raise £1,000 for the MCA Trust, a fantastic charity that provides support to children with cancer. A really well-organised day at a first-class venue, and we look forward to attending again next year.”

Novuna Business Finance and Star Asset Finance: Second place prize

Teaming up for the event, Novuna and Star Asset Finance finished second in the team competition, with their winnings being split between two deserving charities.

Novuna Business Finance received £370, which was directed to the Fountain Centre, an independent charity offering vital support to cancer patients and their families at the Royal Surrey Hospital.

Chris Powell, Head of Sales at Novuna Business Finance, commented: “We had a fantastic time at the AFPA Golf Day held at the Berkshire Golf Club, we were delighted to be paired with Steve Swift and Sam Geneen from Star Asset Finance.

“We agreed with the Star Group to split the winnings between both our chosen charities, the Fountain Centre and St Giles Hospice Limited, which Novuna will match fund.

“Novuna Business Finance’s chosen charity the Fountain Centre holds a special place in our hearts, as it has provided incredible support to one of our colleagues and his wife, who was sadly diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and follicular thyroid cancer a year ago.

“Many thanks to the organising team, particularly Adrian Langford & Matt Chambers for hosting a great event and we look forward to topping our winnings next year,” he added.

Star Asset Finance donated their £250 prize to St. Giles Hospice, a charity that offers care and support to those living with incurable illnesses and their loved ones. This donation will help St. Giles continue their invaluable work in the community.

“Steve Swift, CEO at Star Asset Finance, and myself were privileged to play at the AFPA Golf Day on 25th July,” remarked Sam Geneen, Chairman of Star Asset Finance.

“Not only did we enjoy playing with our partners at Novuna, but we also managed to secure second place in the team event. And the real bonus was that this resulted in us being able to donate our prize to St Giles Hospice. It doesn’t get much better.”
