CGI, one of the world’s largest business and IT consulting firms, has announced its signing of the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act Pledge. This commitment is part of the company’s engagement with the European Commission’s AI Pact, a voluntary initiative aimed at promoting responsible development and deployment of AI technologies across Europe.

The pledge aligns CGI with the objectives outlined in the EU’s AI Act, which seeks to regulate the use of AI technologies to ensure they are safe, ethical, and trustworthy. This move strengthens CGI’s long-standing dedication to developing responsible AI and Generative AI solutions for businesses globally.

“Given CGI’s extensive footprint in Europe and around the world, as well as decades of experience designing and implementing AI-based solutions for clients, we are proud to join the EU’s initiative to help shape the digital future of Europe,” said Jean-Michel Baticle, President and Chief Operating Officer at CGI.

He added that “responsible use of AI is not only an ethical necessity, but a business imperative.”

CGI’s approach to AI is rooted in a comprehensive responsible-use framework, which emphasizes ethical AI development and deployment. The company employs a robust risk matrix, enforceable guidelines, and best practices designed to ensure AI technologies are used ethically and effectively. These principles are based on scientific research and aim to drive business outcomes while protecting privacy and security.

In addition to its internal framework, CGI helps clients develop their own responsible AI strategies. The firm provides guidance on critical areas such as: designing proper oversight and governance to ensure trustworthy AI outcomes; understanding the risks associated with various AI models; applying privacy and security measures for reliable data interactions; and selecting the most suitable AI models for specific applications.
