TLT furthers financial regulatory practice with new partner addition

UK national law firm TLT has further expanded its Financial Services Regulation (FSR) practice with the appointment of Ben Player as a partner.

Ben Player’s arrival marks the latest milestone in a period of rapid growth for TLT’s FSR team, led by partner and top regulatory lawyer Amanda Hulme, who joined the firm in April 2024. Since then, the team has grown to sixteen lawyers, delivering strategic and innovative regulatory counsel across TLT’s key focus sectors, including retail, financial services, and clean energy.

Re-joining TLT – where he originally trained and qualified – from Osborne Clarke, Ben brings a broad and respected FSR practice with particular expertise in regulated credit and insurance products. He advises lenders, funders, and fintechs on a wide range of financial products, from loans and credit cards to buy-now-pay-later schemes, mortgages, and general insurance distribution. He also supports clients navigating complex frameworks such as the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR).

Recognised by both Chambers and Legal 500 as a leading adviser in the fintech and green finance communities, Player also has extensive experience providing regulatory due diligence for corporate and banking transactions, including share and asset acquisitions and forward-flow deals.

Amanda Hulme, Partner and Head of Financial Services Regulation at TLT, said:

“Ben’s arrival is yet another statement of intent for our FSR team, which is expanding rapidly at a time when demand for cutting-edge legal advice from financial services clients is growing.

“Ben is a pragmatic lawyer, who is embedded in the financial services sector and has his finger on the pulse, anticipating the needs of our clients. His appointment will be welcomed by our clients and colleagues and serves as a clear indication to the wider market of our ambition, depth of expertise, and readiness to deliver first-class legal counsel.”

Ben Player, Partner at TLT, added: “It’s an exciting time to be joining this team in rapid growth mode, and to contribute to its continued success. The TLT FSR practice offers a robust and attractive platform from which I can continue to grow and develop my own practice and support clients across the firm’s key sectors to respond to regulatory change with agility and confidence.”

Ben’s appointment follows that of Jack Houselander, who joined TLT’s multi-disciplinary Payments team earlier this month as a partner, strengthening the firm’s fintech and retail financial services expertise and supporting the growth of its financial services practice.
