Leasing Professionals Simply voted the best industry organisation to work for by its employees Published: 25th July 2023 Share The Asset Finance Connect Best Organisation to Work for (Lender) Award 2023, sponsored by CBC Resourcing Solutions, was awarded to Simply Asset Finance at the recent AFC Summer Awards. Judged by the company’s own employees, the accolade of “best company to work for” really is a true endorsement of how employees feel and how much they appreciate their employers. On winning the highly sought-after award, Mike Randall, CEO at Simply commented, “Simply has been recognised in its short time for attributes that mean a lot to us, such as our technology, innovation and leadership. However, winning an award for best organisation to work for feels very special, and the fact that our own team took the time to nominate and vote for us is particularly humbling. “Our people mean so much to us and they are huge part of what makes Simply a great place to work, living by our values every day and upholding the culture that is so important to us.” Nominations from Simply’s employees highlighted the focus on putting its employees’ needs at the forefront of the business: “Simply shows flexibility, understanding and really does treat employees as individuals with differing needs.” Another team member praised Simply for being an inclusive place to work where its main focus is its people: “Simply often hold academies for knowledge sharing opportunities as well as encouraging job sharing and shadowing to improve skillsets. Simply recognises those who are going above and beyond and provides opportunities for recognition and growth within the industry and not just within the company. There is a high level of transparency within the business and management listen to their teams to help push and develop their careers.” Randall highlights Simply’s aim to create an environment where the team can enjoy coming to work every day, whilst empowering staff to innovate, challenge and learn. As many team members confirmed: “Simply provides employees with an environment that is inclusive and welcoming… A great place to work and an amazing culture of respect and decency.” Simply realises the importance of being adaptable to different skill sets and desired career paths to encourage talent retention, so employees have been supported to move across the business and input on all aspects of the company. The business also provides training and development across all functions and has an internal mentor programme to support this. Simply has also supported staff members on asset finance diplomas and financial qualifications. Employee engagement is also very important to Simply and something that Randall believes staff really value: “We have regular board and company-wide briefings, survey employees regularly and are transparent about the company’s roadmap and performance. We recently started offering two volunteering days a year for people to work with charities of their choice after listening to some of the feedback we had from a survey.” Creating a unique purpose and culture is vital to attract and keep talent. Simply has nine values and believes in a ‘can do’ and approachable culture which is embedded in the company’s DNA, meaning they have remained constant despite growth. Randall notes that everyone at Simply played a part in defining the company’s core values – which underpin and make a difference to everything that is done at Simply, from collaboration with customers, to everyday work practices and the way new people are recruited. One employee commented, “At Simply, I don’t have to compromise on my values. In our first months, we were all part of defining what we believe in, how we wanted to treat each other and what was important. This was the start of us defining our culture. Since then, a lot more people have joined, and the values have been strengthened. This makes us better because we enforce the good in each other.” Simply’s senior management received praise from its team: “I am free to be myself, I am free to learn, and I am heard when I have an idea or a thought. I believe I have some of the best mentors around me in the industry as senior management and for me that has been completely invaluable.” Amongst its employees, it was unanimously felt that “Simply is a great place to grow, succeed and celebrate what we are able to do for SMEs.” On top of winning the AFC Best Organisation to Work For Award (lender) at the Asset Finance Connect Summer Awards 2023, Simply were also joint award winners of the AFC Lender of the Year 2023 and the AF Top 50 Highest Climber 2023, and won the award for the AF Top 50 Fastest Sustained Growth (%) 2020 to 2023.
