Auto Finance Sponsored by Auto Finance News BMW Group surges ahead in EV sales Published: 15th April 2025 Share The BMW Group kicked off 2025 on a strong note, reporting robust growth in key global markets and a significant leap in fully-electric vehicle (BEV) sales. Despite subdued demand in China, the company delivered a total of 586,149 vehicles worldwide in the first quarter—just slightly below the previous year’s performance (-1.4%). Sales climbed in Europe (+6.2%) and the United States (+4.0%), helping the company post overall growth of +5.9% outside of China. This momentum was fuelled in large part by the BMW Group’s expanding portfolio of electric vehicles, as global BEV deliveries surged +32.4% year-over-year, totalling 109,516 fully-electric BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce vehicles between January and March. “The BMW Group’s technology-open strategy is proving successful,” said Jochen Goller, Board Member for Customer, Brands, and Sales at BMW AG. “Our products are winning over customers worldwide across all drive technologies, with positive momentum driven, in particular, by the new MINI models – especially the fully-electric variants.” Europe stood out as a hotbed for electric vehicle adoption, with BEV sales in the region soaring +64.2%. The MINI brand continued its transformation into a fully-electric lineup, reporting that 35.3% of all MINI vehicles sold globally in Q1 were BEVs. MINI sold 64,626 units overall during the quarter—a +4.1% increase from the same period last year. Meanwhile, the BMW brand delivered 520,142 vehicles globally, recording growth across all regions excluding China. The brand also saw a +9.9% increase in BEV sales, with 86,449 fully-electric BMWs handed over to customers. Performance division BMW M GmbH posted a +5.0% increase, selling 50,494 vehicles, led by strong demand for the BMW M5 and M3 models. Despite challenges in the Chinese market, BMW’s strategic focus on electrification and new model rollouts has kept momentum high. The company is on track to hit two key milestones in 2025: three million electrified vehicles (BEVs and PHEVs) on the road since the debut of the BMW i3 and i8, and 1.5 million fully-electric vehicles delivered globally. “We are feeling confident, thanks to significant growth in new orders across all drive technologies, particularly in our domestic market of Germany,” Goller added.
