Arval Germany and Otovo partner to simplify home charging

Arval Germany is making it easier than ever for company car drivers to charge their electric vehicles with clean, self-generated solar energy at home, thanks to a new partnership with residential solar specialist Otovo.

The collaboration brings together Arval’s expertise in full-service vehicle leasing and mobility solutions with Otovo’s leadership in residential photovoltaics, offering a seamless and sustainable charging solution for employees of Arval’s corporate customers in Germany.

With the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) rising – 58% of Arval Germany’s leased fleet was electrified in 2024, including nearly 50% fully battery-electric – this initiative meets a growing need for accessible, low-emission home charging.

Under the new program, Arval customers can now offer their employees a complete solar package from Otovo, available for either rent or purchase. The system includes solar panels and an optional wallbox, with installation handled by certified Otovo partners. By enabling EV drivers to generate and use their own solar power, the initiative reduces both carbon emissions and long-term energy costs.

Sébastien Valy, CEO of Arval Germany, emphasized the broader significance of the partnership: “Innovative mobility doesn’t end with the vehicle – it starts with the energy source.

“Our partnership with Otovo empowers companies and their employees to live electromobility in all its depth and consistency. By combining electric vehicles with clean solar energy, we create sustainable added value – for the environment, for profitability and for the future.”

Otovo, which has already installed over 30,000 solar systems across 13 European countries, brings digital simplicity, transparent pricing, and scalable solar solutions to the table.

Andreas Thorsheim, founder and CEO of Otovo, added: “In Arval, we have found a strong partner who, like us, is convinced that the energy transition starts on a small scale – at home.

“The combination of e-car and solar system is the logical next step for many people. Together, we are now making this transition even easier, more economical and more sustainable.”

Nils John, Senior Mobility Lead at Arval Germany, noted that the offering aligns perfectly with the rising interest in sustainable fleet electrification and energy independence:

“More and more companies are focusing on environmentally conscious mobility and electrifying their fleets. The combination of electrified vehicles and photovoltaics offers enormous savings potential for both companies and their employees. Together with Otovo, we are addressing this development in a targeted manner with an easy-to-implement solution that combines economy and ecology.”
