AFC Social Award celebrates Alfa’s positive social impact

At the recent Asset Finance Connect Summer Awards, Alfa were presented with the AFC Social Award 2023 for its vibrant and diverse social impact on the lives of the people who work at Alfa, as well as the wider community.

On winning the award, Grahame Williams, Associate Director: ESG at Alfa said: “This means a lot to us as a company – we had an internal blogpost announcing the win on the day after the award and it got a huge amount of engagement from our colleagues. This is a reflection of the fact that so many of those colleagues are actively engaged in work with our communities (Alfa’s employee resource groups), social impact work in general and the significant efforts we as a company make to look after our people.”

Alfa’s eight employee-led ‘Communities’, including Alfa for Racial Equity, Alfa’s LGBTQ+ Community, Alfa Women’s Community and Alfa’s Inclusion Community, lead the way in raising awareness on a host of important subjects, educating colleagues, supporting each other and making a positive impact on the work lives of Alfa’s employees.

In addition to their people-powered communities, Alfa have launched various initiatives to support work-life balance and wellbeing across the organisation, including Flexible Cultural Days, Inclusive Leadership and Recruitment Training, and initiatives to provide support surrounding menopause, fertility and new parents.

2023 awards Alfa social award

Alfa’s unique company culture is a USP, according to Williams, helping to attract and retain young professional talent: “Our company culture is one of the reasons we have such strong levels of employee engagement and retention at Alfa. People often mention our vibrant and diverse social impact and other work at interview stage as one of the reasons they were attracted to the company.”

Alfa’s Chief People Officer, Vicky Edwards agrees, “Our culture remains one of the things we’re most proud of at Alfa. Our vision is to grow our company size naturally but grow our impact rapidly – retaining the underlying culture that makes Alfa such a great workplace.”

In today’s society, the social impact of an organisation is vital, according to Alfa’s Williams: “organisations need to be cognisant of their place within a wider social setup and that, fundamentally, we rely on people and a diversity of background, talent and ideas to thrive.”
